Detangling/Dematting
When a pet gets wet any snarl or tangle in his/her coat becomes tighter and larger. Therefore, before any bathing can be done, your pet must be thoroughly inspected for any tangles or mats. Several professional styling tools and products are used, such as Mat N Tangle spray, dematting rakes, and several types of combs to dispatch with those nasty snarls. In the most severe cases of matting clipping must take place. Mats like to nestle themselves close to the skin. Because of this, if they are too tight to detangle, they must be clipped out resulting in a very short coat. Our Pet Stylist will attempt to demat when possible, but sometimes dematting is painful for your pet and clipping the coat off is the only humane recourse.
Preparatory Brush Out and Clipping
To prepare for bathing, your pet is brushed before hand to remove excess hair. For those pets receiving a Style, excess hair length is also removed by clipping. This prevents wasted energy and resources from washing hair that is going to be removed anyway!
Hygienic Trim
To help keep your pet clean and healthy, the Stylists clip the “personal” area beneath the tail and between the pads of the feet. This helps keep stool and urine from collecting on your pet and prevents foreign objects from sticking to hair between his or her toes.
Nail Trim
All pets in the Salon receive a “Peticure”!
Ear Hair Removal and Ear Cleaning
Excess hair is removed from your pet’s ears to prevent waxy build-up being held in the ears and the ears are cleaned before bathing.
Anal Glands
An external expression of the anal glands is performed on your pet before bathing. If the glands are full or irritated the Veterinarian is notified. Only the Veterinarian does the internal anal gland expression which is the most thorough. An additional fee will be charged by the Veterinarian. Some large, or overweight dogs cannot be express externally and should be seen by your Veterinarian for internal expression.
Bathing — The Suds & Soak portion of your pet’s Salon visit!
Quality products are the basis of any good bath. Our Pet Salon uses many high quality products to produce the softest, silkiest coat while being gentle on your pet’s skin. The Pet Stylist can advise you on the product that best suites your pet’s skin care needs.
The bathing process itself is an invigorating massage for your pet. It stimulates the skin’s natural blood flow and opens the pores to remove the dirt, grease and environmental toxins that build up on all of our skin.
After The Bath
When all the sudsing and soaking, conditioning and rinsing is complete, your pet starts the drying process. First, a high velocity, forced air blower is used to basically “blow” the excess water from your pet’s coat. This keeps your pet from being literally “sopping” wet and uncomfortable under the blow dryers and makes drying time much shorter. The next step is for your pet to rest in the drying room with a warm air blowdryer until mostly, but not completely dry. The finished drying is done on the Pet Stylist’s table with another blow dryer that the Stylist uses to direct air on specific spots on your pet while poufing the coat to it’s utmost fluffiness. This is also the time when the Stylists De-Shed your pet’s coat. Brushing and combing again to thoroughly. While your pet will still shed after a grooming, we strive to remove as much excess hair as possible.
The Style
Clipping, hand-scissoring, and thinning are just a few of the techniques performed by our Professional Pet Stylists. The skills of precision, creativity, spatial orientation, and symmetry are required in Professional Pet Styling as well as knowledge of the best products and tools available. Professional Pet Styling is a career that requires long hours of training and practice developing technique.
It requires a great deal of dedication and determination as well as patience and compassion for the pets they handle.
Our Professional Pet Stylists are experienced in many various breeds and styles and will consult with you on what style is best for your pet. The Professional Styling is a nose to tail make-over for your pet and reflects his or her personality.
Regular visits to your Pet Stylist is best for optimum styling conditions. Overgrown or matted pets may not be able to receive the perfect style and may have to start their coats over again with a complete clipdown. The art of Pet Styling starts with a well-kept coat.
The Finishing Touch
Finally, after a busy day at the Pet Salon, your pet may be sprayed with “The Stuff” a silicone finishing spray which makes the coat slick and smooth and helps as a dirt repellent.
Last but surely not least, a fragrance is selected for your pet to match or compliment the scent from the products used during his/her visit and a complimentary bandanna is placed around the neck.
